Salento: Squinzano Dop

The Squinzano DOP, lying in the fertile countryside on the border between Brindisi and Lecce, takes its name from the small village of Squinzano, which covers some 30 square kilometres in the province of Lecce. Negroamaro predominates in the red blends here, with smaller amounts allowed of Malvasia Nera and other red varieties; a wine aged 24 months may bear the designation Riserva. The whites are based on the non-native Chardonnay, which must be 90% of the blend if listed on the label; the same is true of the other white grapes, Fiano, Malvasia Bianca, and Sauvignon Blanc

Categories: Rosso (red), Bianco (white), Rosato (rosé), Spumante (sparkling), Riserva (reserve), Novello (nouveau).
